For starters the doctor shouldn't take the pill away from you to force you to get a pap smear.
That's ridiculous and he could be blamed for you getting pregnant.
It is important that you get it done...but seriously what an idiot.

Anyway.

a Pap smear is uncomfortable, but important, remember every woman has to have one so you aren't alone.
The doctor or nurse will insert something into your vagina to open it up so they can take a swab of the cells from your vaginal wall to send it away to be tested.

This will test to make sure you don't have cervical cancer and can also check for infections or STDs.

It doesn't hurt, i'm not going to say that it isn't uncomfortable laying there with your legs spread but doctors do it all the time and they will know how nervous you are and will take it easy on you.

Its over and done with in a matter of minutes and you wont have to do it again for a whole year.

It's important part of being a woman so don't be nervous, just get it over with :)

Your mum should be able to talk to you about this if you are worried, maybe just let her know you want details from her and if you don't seem embarrassed then neither will she. after all you are her daughter and if she won't tell you then who will ?
