Perhaps you should see a neurologist, because the problem may not be your eyes. A friend of mine actually had a mini-stroke (she wasn't taking her medication for high blood pressure) and it affected her vision in one eye.I can't imagine that there would be such pressure on the nerve at your age, but if your eye doctor (was s/he a opthalmologist, or just an optometrist?) was aware of your symptoms and didn't refer you on to another specialist, you should find someone yourself.I'm not a medical professional, just offering my two cents here. But obviously such blacked-out vision isn't normal and you want to find out what's causing it.
