How can I get a job with cripling painc attacks? Please help. Thanks.?

When I go on interviews my brain frezes up and I can't say a word or mess up when they ask a question, because I can't think straight. I have tried many medications and nothing seems to work really. I can't get a job because I sound stupid in interviews because of the anxiety. What should I do?? My husband is mad at me and puts me down lately. I'm so sad because of this.

Answer Question

It can feel unpleasant to experience your "fight or flight" coping mechanism. The endorphins in your body flood during these moments which is why you will feel both mad and fearful at the same time. Your brain uses wisdom telling you to either flee or fight. You had to smarts not to fight but to flee. You cannot change your autonomic system. It was built into to you by God for a reason. It protects you. For example: you are in the woods and you meet a giant bear. Your autonomic system releases endorphins and your brain instructs you what to do, flee fast or flee slow or stand there or shoot him dead. That is what I mean by the fact you can't change that. I had a situation similar to yours. We had a drunk man purposely hitting our van on the freeway so we drove right up to the police station and the man was stupid enough to drive right up with us. He was arrested for DUI and reckless driving. My heart was beating so hard. I was scared and mad at the same time. Almost made me feel sick to be so flooded with body chemicals.

What you experienced is totally normal. Your body was designed to do that to help keep you from harm. this is not something you want to overcome!

That "scared" feeling is the "Flight or Fight response caused by a surge of adrenalin. This response is not only normal in a dangerous situation, it can save your life. When an adrenalin surge hits, you have sharper responses and more energy. When the adrenalin begins to fade away, you will feel tired, and may see a situation differently than when you did when the surge hit. One way to combat feeling scared is to role play scenarios or situations in your mind ahead of time and decide how you want to handle yourself. You will more likely react the way you want to instead of doing something you do not want to when the adrenalin is high. Feeling scared could save your life if you avoid situations that bring up that emotion, it only becomes dreadful when you feel scared in situations that you are convinced you should have more confidence in.
